Ulangan 8:14
Konteks8:14 be sure 1 you do not feel self-important and forget the Lord your God who brought you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery,
Ulangan 28:25
Konteks28:25 “The Lord will allow you to be struck down before your enemies; you will attack them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions and will become an object of terror 2 to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Ulangan 32:27
Konteks32:27 But I fear the reaction 3 of their enemies,
for 4 their adversaries would misunderstand
and say, “Our power is great, 5
and the Lord has not done all this!”’
Ulangan 33:17-18
Konteks33:17 May the firstborn of his bull bring him honor,
and may his horns be those of a wild ox;
with them may he gore all peoples,
all the far reaches of the earth.
They are the ten thousands of Ephraim, 6
and they are the thousands of Manasseh.
33:18 Of Zebulun he said:
Rejoice, Zebulun, when you go outside,
and Issachar, when you are in your tents.
[8:14] 1 tn The words “be sure” are not in the Hebrew text; vv. 12-14 are part of the previous sentence. For stylistic reasons a new sentence was started at the beginning of v. 12 in the translation and the words “be sure” repeated from v. 11 to indicate the connection.
[28:25] 2 tc The meaningless MT reading זַעֲוָה (za’avah) is clearly a transposition of the more commonly attested Hebrew noun זְוָעָה (zÿva’ah, “terror”).
[32:27] 5 tn Heb “Our hand is high.” Cf. NAB “Our own hand won the victory.”
[33:17] 6 sn Ephraim and Manasseh were the sons of Joseph who became founders of the two tribes into which Joseph’s descendants were split (Gen 48:19-20). Jacob’s blessing granted favored status to Ephraim; this is probably why Ephraim is viewed here as more numerous than Manasseh.
